Stephanie Domingues, a native of Oakville, Ontario Canada is a 19 year old soprano has been studying voice for nine years. She is currently performing with Opera in Concert, where she has sung The Snow Maiden, Tamerlano, Anna Bolena, Die Tote Stadt, La Rondine and La Dialogues Des Carmelites. She also participated in an ensemble in the prestigious Luminato Festival Concert Series 2007 at Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto. Stephanie participated in the Canadian Children’s Opera Chorus, where she has sung leading roles in many operas, including A Dickens of a Christmas, Dido and Aeneas, The Mikado, The Mid Winter Night Dream, and The Hobbit, a newly written opera for children. She was also chosen for lead parts in opera excerpts from The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, and Hansel and Gretel.
As a member the Canadian Children’s Opera Chorus, Stephanie was chosen to participate in master classes and operas with the Canadian Opera Company including The Magic Flute, Turandot and The Queen of Spades. Most recently she was a soloist twice at the Four Season Centre for the Performing Arts (Public Open House). She has also recorded TV and radio commercials for major companies. Stephanie debuted on the radio show “From the Top” where she was chosen to participate in October 2006 and August 2007. In December 2004, Stephanie released her first CD, “From Within”, a collection of both classical and popular songs which received great reviews and sold very well. In June 2005, Stephanie made her solo recital debut, entitled “To Sing with Joy”, with an encore performance in May 2006, entitled, “From the Heart”. She presented an evening of music, and performed solo arias, songs, duets and trios, as well as works for soprano soloist and choir. In December 2005, Stephanie made her first solo symphony debut with The Oakville Symphony, with an encore performance in December 2006, performing in their Family Christmas Concert. Stephanie also enjoys performing in major fundraisers such as the Relay for Life(2005 – Present), a fundraiser for the Cancer Society and the Oakville’s Walking Tour, a fundraiser for the Oakville Kerr St. Ministries. Stephanie also participated in the MacMillian Singer and Oakville’s Walton Memorial Church Choir as a soprano soloist and Head Soprano.
In both the summer of 2005 and 2006, Stephanie was chosen to train and perform under sponsorship with the prestigious Tanglewood Institute in their Young Artist Vocal Program, an elite program for a select few young gifted artists from all over the world. She performed in many concerts while at Tanglewood, and enjoyed studying with celebrated performers and teachers. While studying at Tanglewood Institute, Stephanie fell in love with the music of Brahms and Mozart. However, Stephanie’s repertoire expands to include many composers from the Classical, Romantic, Baroque and 20th Century era. Also, Stephanie studies music in many different languages including French, Italian, Spanish, Latin and German.
Stephanie studies voice, piano and theory. She has achieved First Class Honours in her Royal Conservatory of Music examinations in all three disciplines. She has won many prizes in local music festivals. She participated in the 2007 Grade 10 Provincial Competition. She received First Place for Grade 9 Voice in the 2006 Provincial Competitions, was Runner-Up for Grade 8 Voice in the 2005 Provincial Competition, and won an Honourable Mention for Grade 7 Voice in the 2004 Provincial Competition. For both 2006 and 2007, Stephanie received First Place and was awarded Most Promising Young Singer Award in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) in Ontario and the NATS Regional Competitions in the Michigan, USA and the Indiana, USA competition. Most recently she was awarded the 2008 Flora Carey Everett scholarship, from the Duet Club of Hamilton for the Highest Grade 10 Vocal mark and the 2007 Operatic Scholarship from the Rotary Burlington Music Festival. She was awarded the ORMTA Hamilton-Halton Branch’s, Joan Heels Vocal Scholarship for achieving the highest mark in Grade 8, Grade 9 and Grade 10 Vocal. Most recently, Stephanie was awarded the 2007-2008 Robert William Bygrave Voice Studies Full Tuition Bursary from the University of Toronto, the 2007 Millennium/Ontario Grant and the 2007 Queen Elizabeth Aiming for the Top Scholarships for her high academic marks.
